SUMMARY:Analysing Inclusive Classroom Practices - European Workshop Series Cluster 2 "Diversity and Inclusion"
DESCRIPTION:ICSE Academy project is piloting online workshop series for teachers and teacher students. \nCluster 2 “Diversity and Inclusion” \nTopic today: Analysing Inclusive Classroom Practices  (based upon try-outs) \nDuring this session the teachers are expected to inquire and reflect on their enacted lessons using theoretical constructs and tools coming from research on inclusive classroom practices. Through this process\, the session aims to support teachers to become aware of knowledge and strategies to implement and evaluate inclusive STEM lessons as well as of the affordances\, constraints and challenges of such lessons. Finally\, directions will be provided for future practices\, and participants will be asked to indicate two key messages from this cluster that they would like to keep practicing in their classroom. \nShare this post

SUMMARY:Analysing and Design STEM Tasks for Diversity and Inclusion - European Workshop Series Cluster 2 "Diversity and Inclusion"
DESCRIPTION:ICSE Academy project is piloting online workshop series for teachers and teacher students. \nCluster 2 “Diversity and Inclusion” \nTopic today: Analysing and Design STEM Tasks for Diversity and Inclusion \nIn this session we build on insights from the previous session and focus on various dimensions of diversity. Participants become familiar with (re)design strategies for selecting & developing tasks and adapting them to their context. We will discuss various formats of tasks\,  pedagogical approaches and relations with role models. Participants prepare an example activity for try-out including a lesson plan and expectations with respect to inclusion/diversity.  \nShare this post

SUMMARY:STEMkey Summer School
DESCRIPTION:How to support STEM knowledge\, skills and attitudes with an interdisciplinary approach \nThis June\, students from different European countries come together to participate in our STEMkey summer school. \nCore of STEM education at school traditionally is the delivery of fundamental subject knowledge like functions\, human anatomy\, and chemical reactions. Learners’ skills to apply gained knowledge and attitudes to set it in context with their life and societal decision-making processes have not been sufficiently nurtured likewise. \nThis will change! \nThe STEMkey summer school offers the opportunity to learn about integrated STEM approaches which not only transfer subject knowledge of various maths\, science\, technology and engineering topics\, but also allows the development of skills and attitudes. A special feature is the focus on 21st-century skills: Critical-Thinking\, Creativity and Problem-Solving. \nThe event involves workshops on different STEM subject topics and will be held by an international team of renowned lecturers from 8 countries! \n  \nSTEMkey innovates your STEM lessons through an interdisciplinary competence-based approach\, and supports you to support your students to develop the STEM competences they need for today and tomorrow. \n  \n  \n \nShare this post

SUMMARY:Educating the Educators: STEM & Open Schooling for Sustainability Education
DESCRIPTION:Educating the Educators (ETE) is an international conference series on professional development in STEM (science\, technology\, engineering and mathematics) education that brings together teacher educators\, policy makers\, teachers and various other stakeholders related to STEM education. \nETE IV will focus on implementing and scaling up innovative teaching approaches in STEM education and in particular on open schooling initiatives with respect to environmental issues (such as waste reduction\, energy reduction/transition\, increasing electricity needs for clouds and bitcoins\, etc.). The aim is to discuss different approaches with a rich variety of participants on ways of working for teachers and PD course leaders\, the roles of teaching materials\, and on structures needed for innovations in STEM education. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nETE IV features both traditional and innovative formats to benefit of gathering a circle of participants from research\, practice and policy. Vivid exchange and collaborative work will be ensured by spaces for co-creation and for sharing ideas and results. Three prominent keynote speakers will provide rich introductions on the main theme of the conference: \n\nArjen Wals (Professor Transformative Learning for Socio-ecological Sustainability/Unesco Chair at Wageningen University & Research\, Netherlands)\nMarta Romero Ariza (MOST-project & University of Jaén\, Spain)\nKatja Maaß (MOST-project & University of Education Freiburg\, Germany) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n  \nRegistration is now open! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShare this post

SUMMARY:Diversity Sensitive Support for Vocational Orientation of Young Women
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nWomen are still underrepresented in science and technology studies. Although choosing a career is considered to be a highly individual decision based on one’s own skills and competencies\, it is actually very influenced by cultural context: female and working-class students seem to think more often than others that science is not for them. \nIn this online workshop\, Prof. Dr. Silvija Markic will present in what ways vocational orientation measures could be designed to appeal to groups that are currently underrepresented in science. \nTogether we will learn about different strategies which are offered but also wished by the young women when it comes to their career aspiration. The workshop will be based on an online tool which helps young women to reflect on their own self-concept and abilities for career in natural sciences. \nThe workshop is for free and will be held online via Zoom. You will get the Zoomlink after your registration here: https://eveeno.com/130778430 \n  \n*** \nProf. Dr. Silvija Markic is a professor for chemistry education at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich\, Germany after a professorship at the Pädagogische Hochschule Ludwigsburg. \nHer research interests include science teachers’ beliefs and pedagogical content knowledge\, linguistic heterogeneity and cultural diversity in chemistry and science education\, cooperative learning and alternative teaching methods as well as digitalization of teaching and learning at the tertiary level. \n  \nShare this post

SUMMARY:Empowering Girls
DESCRIPTION:The University of Malta is organising a Girls4STEM Week between the 12th and 16th September 2022\, aimed at female students who have finished Year 7. The girls will participate in teams in activities linked to real life problems in which they apply their knowledge of different STEM areas (science\, technology\, engineering\, mathematics) and learn new concepts in a hands-on\, collaborative environment. The Girls4STEM Week will also include meeting and working with women involved in STEM-related careers. They will explore STEM through a variety of topics and applications. It is envisaged that through the various planned activities\, students will become more aware of their own potential and increase their interest in studying\, being involved and in pursuing careers in STEM\, digital disciplines and entrepreneurship especially with regard to leadership positions. \nShare this post
