SUMMARY:Socio-Scientific Issues in Mathematics and Science Teachers Education Spring School 2022 in Slovakia
DESCRIPTION:Intensive program for higher education learners and for teaching staff in Nitra\, Slovakia\n \nWe would like to invite all interested students to our Spring School in April 2022 (exact date is tbd) in the beautiful city of Nitra in Slovakia. During this ten-day event you will have the opportunity to explore socio-scientific issues (SSI) in the education of maths and science teachers\, such as: \n\nReasoning\, argumentation and critical thinking using media reports as a starting point\nDecision-making based on confronting scientific positions\nDesigning a SSI lesson II with focus on appropriate methods to promote creativity\, critical thinking and reasoning\nScaffolding\, supporting students by providing a framework how to deal with SSI\nSSI and assessment of student learning\n\nEspecially welcome are Science and maths Initial Teacher Education students as well as PhD students in mathematics and science education. \n  \nWhat awaits you at this ten-day spring school? \nYou will attend plenary lectures given by the ENSITE project partners\, among others. Exciting seminars and workshops also await you. \nAt the ENSITE Spring School\, it is important to us that you actively participate in the discussions and help shape the event with your contributions. In addition\, you will gain an insight into the aims and objectives of this exciting EU project. The event is intended to integrate socio-scientific issues into your future teaching and academic work. All participants will have the opportunity to present their acquired knowledge and experience in a scientific colloquium at the end of our spring school. \nYour stay will be accompanied by a cultural programme. Among other things\, you will make excursions to culturally and/or scientifically significant sites as well as visits to relevant exhibitions and museums. \nAs a confirmation of participation\, you will receive a certificate stating the scope of the activity and the learning outcomes achieved. SUMMARY:STEMkey's 4th Transnational Project Meeting
DESCRIPTION:During this meeting\, the main focus is on finding solutions to assess STEM key competences in classroom settings. Assessment methods are of high importance\, as only when teachers are enabled to assess learners’ performances upon completion of any given task/subject lesson/programme can they realistically implement these activities in their classrooms. Key competences pose a particular challenge here\, as key competences are a combination fo knowledge\, skills and attitudes. Whereas knowledge bits have been assessed for ages\, this does not apply to skills and least of all attitudes in STEM education so far. \nShare this post

SUMMARY:1hour4 Girls in STEM | Gender\, Identity\, and Intersectionality in STEM Education
DESCRIPTION:This free online workshop provides you with an insight into the role of gender and stereotypes\, STEM identity\, and intersectionality which are at the roots of gender gaps in STEM education\, studies and careers. \nTogether we will unpack personal identities and reflect on them in the context of STEM education. You will gain a basic understanding of the mechanisms behind inequities in STEM and develop ideas to help students build STEM identities. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis time’s one hour for girls in STEM will be led by Dr. Anneke Steegh\, an educational researcher with particular interest in diversity and gender-equality in STEM education. \nFind out more about Dr. Steegh as well as the workshop here. \n\nAs soon as you registered yourself\, we will send you the Zoom link. \n\n\n\n\nShare this post

SUMMARY:ICSE's Quarterly Problem - Learning Opportunities for Social Participation
DESCRIPTION:Current societal problems such as climate change or the Covid pandemic are increasingly putting topics related to mathematics and science at the center of public discussions. To participate in these discussions\, people need the skills and knowledge to engage with\, discuss\, and make reasoned decisions about mathematical and scientific ideas and information. Therefore\, these skills and knowledge should be acquired as early as at school. With our Quarterly Problems\, teachers can provide learning opportunities that support the development of responsible citizens. \nAlice Hesse shares in a short video\, uploaded to our website on April 29th\, what our Quarterly Problems are about and how they encourage students to consider social\, economic\, political\, and ethical aspects of the learning context. \n  \nShare this post
