Yet\, prospective science teachers need to be aware of the social realities of many science tasks as well as of culturally different algorithms.\nThey should be able to perceive social different perspectives and develop socio-scientific sensitivity. Participating students of the ENSITE summer school will have numerous opportunities for intercultural exchange\, both within the international student group and outside when meeting local students\, teachers\, and pupils. This will enable them to gain rich experience connected to their own future profession.\n \nLectures will be held by an international team of renowned lecturers from 4 countries!  \n Venue: Faculty of Education\, Charles University\, Prague\, Czech Republic (M. D. Rettigové street 4\, closest Metro station – Národní třída or Můstek)\nMain target group: Mathematics and natural sciences students in teacher education programmes – also interested teachers welcome!\nApplication deadline: June 6th\, 2022\nAward: 3 ECTS credits from Faculty of Education\, Charles University\, certificate of participation\nLanguage: English\nCosts for students of ENSITE partner universities: free of charge\nFee for students of other universities: Attendance fee 100\,- EUR. SUMMARY:Teknikkollo
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of Teknikkollo is to inspire young people to technology\, give technical self-confidence and\, in the longer term\, contribute to a well-thought-out high school choice. Sweden needs a lot of manpower with technical skills going forward and we must all contribute to this! In addition\, Sweden needs to level the gender-segregated labour market. \nIn Teknikkollo we will teach in programming\, 3D modelling\, 3D printing and use laser cutters as well as several maker moments with electronics as well as programming robots. Our idea is that we teach basics\, show possible prototypes they can try to make but that their interest and curiosity will make them later develop their own products based on their own ideas. The whole process is the instructors there and lead them to progress. We will program with Microbits and build products controlled by Microbits. The participants are encouraged to create complex products where they use knowledge from several different new technologies they learned during the week. We have a lot of materials\, tools\, and knowledge so there are great opportunities to pursue their production ideas. The instructors also serve as good role models for choosing technology and science education. They talk about their experiences\, feelings and thoughts about the technology and contexts they have come in contact. In the end of the week they are going to create a simple video to show what they accomplished during the week. \nTeknikkollo is free for the participants and they are all allowed to bring a lot of thing home in the end of the camp\, etc Microbit. This camp will hopefully be a unique experience of science and technology with other young people. Our idea is that it should not end with the camp but that a genuine interest in technology develops. \nContact Person  Linda Samuelsson Linda.samuelsson@jonkoping.se \n  \nShare this post

SUMMARY:Smart City
DESCRIPTION:“The Smart City 2022” Summer School continues the idea of previous Summer Schools – see STEM from a different\, unprecedented perspective\, be curious\, creative and entrepreneurial in designing your life and your vision of a smart city. \nThe main questions we will seek to answer through the school’s activities are: how do smart technologies create a convenient life? Why STEM + business = innovation? \nThe Summer School activities should spark curiosity and a desire to create smart environments for ourselves and for people. The girls will learn by asking questions\, finding creative solutions and working together with the school’s faculty and university researchers. The main goal of the school activities is to develop the girls in STEM fields\, to experience a sense of success in the “here and now” by designing and creating a mini project with Arduino\, to motivate them to go deeper into STEM and entrepreneurship\, to spark their curiosity to question\, to go deeper\, to explore\, and to create in the pursuit of new values. \nContact Person: Asta Meškauskienė at asta.meskauskiene@fsf.vu.lt \nShare this post

SUMMARY:Scientific Excursion around Sustainable World
DESCRIPTION:The central theme of the summer school is sustainable development. Sustainability has three main pillars: economic\, environmental\, and social.  The sustainable development goals are universal call to action to end poverty\, protect the planet and improve the lives and prospects of everyone\, everywhere. For this reason\, sustainable development is part of the education of most countries around the world. The GEM summer school focuses on presenting the role of science and research in fulfilling the economic\, environmental\, and social goals of sustainable development. The summer school includes outdoor STEM activities\, the use of information and communication technology for simulations and modelling of processes in the landscape and group work\, students’ projects\, based on the principles of inquiry based learning. The environmental goals of sustainable development are in the focus of the summer school. Participants\, teenager girls\, will gain knowledge that will help them realize the role of the individual and his conscious steps in the sustainability of life in their surroundings\, region and on the planet. The topics that the girls will address in their projects will teach them to understand the context of human activities with respect to the environment\, the protection of plant and animal species and to consider and process information in a scientific context. The acquired knowledge and skills will enable girls to prepare activities aimed at sustainable development for their children’s and adult clients in tourism. \nContact Person: Sona Ceretkova sceretkova@ukf.sk \nShare this post

SUMMARY:Empowering Girls to understand their role in STEM - Colors Uncovered
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of the summer camp is to engage girls in Cyprus with STEM activities\, with an emphasis on understanding the role of STEM\, and especially the entrepreneurial potential of the field. More than 12 female scientists\, science communicators and educators have worked together to develop interactive activities around the topic of “Colours”. The girls\, in small groups will have the opportunity to learn about colours and their importance from the perspective of science\, mathematics\, technology\, engineering and the arts and will collaborate on producing final products and present them. The teams will learn about design process and how to produce and present products\, and for the final day of the summer school they will prepare their own product based on knowledge and skills gained during the summer school. The girls will also have the opportunity to work with female scientists\, interview female scientists\, participate in a field trip at an environmental centre and prepare their own digital advertisements to promote their products. \n Contact Person: Maria Evagorou at evagorou.m@unic.ac.cy \nShare this post

SUMMARY:Empowering Girls
DESCRIPTION:The summer school will be addressed only to girls 13-15 years old\, that is girls who attended classes od secondary education during 2021-2022 school year. It will be held online for three days from 9.00 to 15.00 approximately every day. The girls will be divided in three groups according to their class. A mentor will be responsible for each group as regards the educational part of the camp (e.g.\, activities\, structure of sessions\, materials\, etc.) while another colleague will be responsible for the communication with parents/guardians for all organizational issues. The girls will be involved in STEM labs based on activities addressing at least two STEM fields. The activities will be adapted to diverse levels and profiles including connections to women’s contribution to STEM fields and favouring the girls’ reflections on their own educational and professional path. With these activities\, we aim to (a) introduce the girls to featured STEM fields and corresponding professional spaces\, (b) inform girls about women’s contribution to scientific domains\, and (c) improve girls self-confidence in their abilities related to STEM. \nShare this post
