The junior team of the local football club has been promoted to the top division of the regional league after a good season. The sporting success is to be rewarded with new kits for the team. The chairman of the football club obtains offers and discusses them with sponsors and coaches.
Two models are shortlisted:
- Jerseys and shorts made of organic cotton: They are made by a textile company in the neighbouring town entirely according to the club’s design specifications.
- Polyester football shirts sold through an online retailer. Several design variants are available from a limited selection. The material scores with great wearing comfort.
How would you decide?
How do cooling effects and sweat absorption capacity influence the team’s well-being, performance and health? Functional clothing made of synthetic fibres is viewed critically in terms of microplastics, but how environmentally friendly is the use of cotton textiles? What role do the origin of the materials and the place of production play?
