This booklet aims to provide a basic introduction to inquiry-based learning (IBL). We hope it will both inspire and provoke you to reconsider your own approaches to teaching and learning. It is aimed at teachers and teacher educators and provides a consistent message to both audiences:
We all learn best when we are actively questioning and investigating our current knowledge and practices. In this booklet, you will be introduced to inquiry-based learning and what IBL means in practice both for classrooms and for professional development courses. At its core, it contains some short
descriptions of inspiring mathematics and science lessons at the primary and secondary school levels. The detailed explanations of the tasks can be
found in this database.
Towards the end of the booklet, we reflect on thebenefits, practicalities and challenges involved when teachers use IBL as part of their daily, classroom practice – and hear from teachers across Europe about their own experiences.
