Now that it’s autumn time, it’s striking once again how much nature changes with the seasons – crazy, isn’t it? All of a sudden chestnuts or walnuts fall from the trees, which can be collected, the leaves change color, mushrooms sprout from the ground.

But how does it all actually work? How does the tree know that autumn is coming, and why and why does the color of the leaves change? Why do they fall, and why only on certain trees? Or why is there an increased occurrence of fungi?

If you live near the forest, a lake, or a park or field, go there and observe nature. What phenomena do you see? Pick out one that particularly interests you and do some research on the phenomenon. How might it be related to other processes that can be observed in the fall?

Present your findings in a descriptive way, preferably the way you would want them explained yourself! Have fun exploring!
