by Gokhan Kaya
We’re excited to share the highlights from the Local Fair, which took place during the International STEM Education Conference on July 6-7, 2024. The event was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the innovative Lighthouse and Open Schooling (OS) activities, all part of the ongoing ICSE Science Factory project.

Local Fair Highlights
At the fair, we featured:
- 15 Lighthouse activities that demonstrated the latest in educational methods and STEM practices.
- 5 Open Schooling activities, focused on community-driven science education.
Both activities were presented through posters and hands-on materials, allowing participants to engage directly with the projects. Attendees explored how these programs revolutionize education through practical, interactive learning experiences.
Industry Participation
We welcomed 11 companies, including startups and entrepreneurs, who opened stands at our national convention. Their participation added a dynamic industry perspective, showcasing how STEM fields intersect with the business and entrepreneurial sectors.

Shaping STEM education across Europe
The ICSE Science Factory project marks a pivotal first step in shaping STEM education across Europe, focusing on health, sustainability, and digitalization. Engaging students with practical initiatives like Lighthouse Activities, Open Schooling Projects, and Career Talks, aims to inspire action for a sustainable future and promote STEM careers, especially among women. As this innovative approach continues across Croatia, Cyprus, Germany, Portugal, and Turkey, the project’s impact on education and global challenges looks promising. Together we pave the way to discovery and enable the next generation to innovate beyond the limits of today’s knowledge and find solutions for a future worth living.
