A European Lighthouse Project Comes to a Close
by Anna Blattmann
After three impactful years, the EU-funded project ICSE Academy – proSTEM has successfully concluded. The project aimed to strengthen the European dimension in STEM teacher education and professional development by fostering collaboration, mobility, and innovation across 13 countries.
Throughout its duration, ICSE Academy brought together 13 universities, 65 schools, and 13 policy-making institutions to form a vibrant community of practice. Together, they implemented 224 activities, including 32 job-shadowing exchanges, two international summer schools in Utrecht and Prague, and two rounds of the European Workshop Series with 26 sessions. The project also hosted three European Policy Round Tables and developed three high-impact policy briefs to inform future educational strategies.
In addition, the consortium conducted case studies to evaluate the effectiveness, accessibility, and transferability of professional learning formats across diverse European contexts. These studies provided valuable insights into how international collaboration can enhance teacher education.
More than 4,500 individuals participated in ICSE Academy activities, and the teaching materials developed were downloaded over 2,200 times. The project’s newsletter attracted over 900 subscribers, and its social media outreach exceeded 2.6 million impressions.
All project results, including teaching materials and policy recommendations, remain accessible via the ICSE Academy website: https://icse.eu/icse-academy
With many partners integrating ICSE Academy formats into their curricula and continuing activities such as summer schools and workshops, the project’s legacy is set to live on in future joint initiatives and working groups. The ICSE Academy has laid a strong foundation for lasting impact in European STEM education.
