About ENSITE
ENSITE (Environmental Socio-Scientific issues in Initial teacher Education) was an Erasmus+ project that ran from 2019-2022, supporting the development of future science and maths teachers’ environmental citizenship and related teaching competences. ENSITE aims at improving higher education by including environmental socio-scientific issues (SSI) in science initial teacher education (ITE).
The project was coordinated by the International Centre for STEM Education (ICSE ) at the University of Education Freiburg, who worked with partner teams of higher education institutions from 11 countries across Europe.
A total of 12 modules have been developed. Modules 1-6 focus on the learning processes to develop competences within the field of environmental SSI whereas modules 7-12 focus on the teaching processes to aquire skills for giving SSI lessons. The individual modules can be used as stand-alone modules in combination with IO1, used as an introduction.
