In Germany and many other European countries, traditional light bulbs were being phased out. From 2009 to 2012, they gradually disappeared from stores, starting with the most powerful ones. This task helps students learn why the EU made this change, while exploring related math and science concepts.
The lesson unit contains teacher notes for the lesson and ready to use worksheets for students.

About COMPASS
Compass (Common Problem Solving Strategies as Links between Mathematics and Science) was an EU funded Lifelong learning programme that ran from 2009-2011. It focused on the development of innovative and inquiry-based learning materials combining STEM disciplines in an interdisciplinary way.
The project was coordinated by the University of Education Freiburg, who worked with 6 partners across Europe as well as mathematics and science teachers to ensure the adaptability of the tasks in different nations.
A toal of 10 lesson units have been developed for teachers to use in their classrooms. It includes teacher notes and lesson worksheets for their students. Some topics included additional activites that used technology in the form of applets, which current browsers do not support anymore, so they cannot be run.
