IncluSMe Module 2 – Culture-related contexts for mathematics and science

By May 2024September 9th, 2024No Comments

In this module, student-teachers at the lower secondary level explore the significance of culture-related contexts in teaching mathematics and science. The module provides an introduction to cultural theory and context, accompanied by examples of diverse cultural contexts drawn from textbooks and practical activities. Participants also engage in designing lessons tailored to culture-related contexts that align with the classroom setting and the cultural backgrounds of their students.

This module contains lecture notes, a lecture presentation, and worksheets.

About IncluSMe
This module is based on the work within the Erasmus+ project ‘Intercultural learning in mathematics and science initial teacher education’ (IncluSMe). Core to IncluSMe, which ran from  2016-2019, was the design and implementation of open access teaching modules. The project brought together 11 teams of higher education institutions for initial teacher education from across Europe and was lead and coordinated by Prof. Dr. Katja Maaß, International Centre for STEM education, University of Education Freiburg.

A total of 13 modules were developed to be used in higher education settings. Ready to use lecture presentations and accompanying notes for lecturers as well as worksheets for trainee teachers are part of every module.
