IncluSMe Module 4 – Socio-scientific issues (SSI)

By May 2024September 9th, 2024No Comments

This module encompasses a series of activities for pre-service primary or secondary teachers and aims to provide them with opportunities to experience and reflect on the potential of socio-scientific issues (SSI) as an appropriate pedagogical approach in culturally diverse classrooms. It offers a set of initial teacher education activities grouped into three different tasks, each focusing on a particular role: teachers as reflective learners, teachers as SSI task designers, and teachers as reflective practitioners.

This module contains lecture notes, a lecture presentation, and worksheets.

About IncluSMe
This module is based on the work within the Erasmus+ project ‘Intercultural learning in mathematics and science initial teacher education’ (IncluSMe). Core to IncluSMe, which ran from  2016-2019, was the design and implementation of open access teaching modules. The project brought together 11 teams of higher education institutions for initial teacher education from across Europe and was lead and coordinated by Prof. Dr. Katja Maaß, International Centre for STEM education, University of Education Freiburg.

A total of 13 modules were developed to be used in higher education settings. Ready to use lecture presentations and accompanying notes for lecturers as well as worksheets for trainee teachers are part of every module.
